NNSA Advances President Trump’s Peace Through Strength Agenda

At the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA), our mission is clear: strengthen America’s nuclear deterrent, modernize the Nuclear Security Enterprise, and deliver the capabilities needed to protect the nation.

This mission directly supports President Trump’s Peace Through Strength agenda. A credible nuclear deterrent depends on credible capability—and credible capability requires an enterprise that can design, build, modernize, and deliver at the pace our national security demands.

Across the Nuclear Security Enterprise, NNSA’s laboratories, plants, and sites are demonstrating that urgency. From weapons modernization and production to infrastructure, counterterrorism, and nonproliferation, the enterprise is delivering results.

Strengthening Deterrence

Weapons modernization is the bedrock of America’s nuclear deterrence. Our nuclear arsenal represents the pinnacle of scientific and engineering achievement, but maintaining a credible deterrent requires us to modernize our capabilities to address ever-evolving threats and geopolitical realities.

NNSA has restored a production-focused culture across the Nuclear Security Enterprise—one centered on accelerated timelines, accountability, and results.

Recent milestones include:

  1. Delivering the Last Production Unit for the  W88 Alt 370.
  2. Completing the First Production Unit of a new reentry body for the W76 three months ahead of schedule.
  3. Completing all B61-13 components scheduled for FY 2026 three months ahead of schedule.

Each milestone demonstrates NNSA’s commitment to deliver strategic weapons to the warfighter ahead of need and schedule.

Production at Speed

Facing two peer nuclear competitors, producing advanced capabilities is only part of the challenge. America must also demonstrate that it can produce these weapons at speed and at scale.

NNSA produces a significant portion of the essential material for the nuclear deterrent and has achieved significant production milestones, including:

  1. Setting a record for tritium production at the Savannah River Site, completing 13 in 9 months.
  2. Completing FY 2026 uranium castings at Y-12 National Security Complex (Y-12) ahead of schedule and under budget.

These accomplishments underscore a broader imperative: restoring the capacity to build and maintaining the industrial capabilities America needs to manufacture nuclear weapons.

Building the Enterprise America Needs

America cannot sustain a modern nuclear deterrent with infrastructure inherited from the Manhattan Project and the Cold War. As the nation focuses on reshoring and reindustrialization, NNSA is strengthening the domestic infrastructure and capabilities that underpin national security.

Over the past year, the enterprise has reached major infrastructure milestones, including:

  1. Completing Phase One of KC NExT at the Kansas City National Security Campus.
  2. Completing the High Explosives Science and Engineering Facility at the Pantex Plant.
  3. Concluding the West-End Protected Area Reduction Project at Y-12.
  4. Holding a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the CAMINO Facility at Sandia National Laboratories.
  5. Breaking ground on the Advanced Testbed and Operations Learning Laboratory at Oak Ridge National Laboratory.

These investments are about more than buildings. They are about rebuilding the capacity to design, produce, maintain, and modernize the systems on which our nuclear deterrent depends.

Ready 24/7/365 to Protect the Homeland

A nuclear or radiological terrorist attack remains one of the gravest threats to the homeland. NNSA’s counterterrorism professionals work around the clock to help prevent such an attack and ensure the nation is prepared to respond if one occurs.

Much of this work happens outside the public eye, but it is essential to national security and homeland defense.

NNSA’s counterterrorism experts are protecting against evolving threats by:

  1. Executing more than 70 operations during one of the highest-tempo periods in the organization’s history, supporting major events from the World Cup to Freedom 250.
  2. Completing more than 50 domestic and international training activities, exercises, and technical exchanges through the Office of Counterterrorism and Counterproliferation.

This continuous readiness adds another layer of strength: the ability not only to deter threats, but also to prevent, counter, and respond to them.

Reducing Nuclear Threats and Expanding American Nuclear Leadership

Nonproliferation is a critical part of President Trump's national security agenda. By stopping nuclear and radiological threats before they reach our borders, we protect the American people, strengthen our national defense, and keep America safe.

Securing and eliminating dangerous nuclear and radiological materials keeps these threats out of the hands of our adversaries. Expanding peaceful nuclear cooperation with trusted allies and partners advances American leadership, strengthens nuclear security, and promotes U.S. interests abroad. Supporting America's domestic nuclear industry drives President Trump's Nuclear Renaissance, strengthens our energy dominance, and reinforces American technological leadership.

NNSA has advanced these efforts by:

  1. Removing all highly enriched uranium from Venezuela in just 12 weeks.
  2. Extracting the final cesium-137 irradiator from Lebanon.
  3. Removing a cobalt-60 radioactive source from Guatemala.
  4. Eliminating all high-risk cesium-137 from four states: North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Carolina, and Vermont.
  5. Transferring 1.7 metric tons of HALEU from Japan to the United States.
  6. Supplying HALEU to the Department of Energy’s Reactor Pilot Program, helping fuel two advanced reactors that achieved criticality this year.
  7. Conducting a breakthrough experiment at the Nevada National Security Site to better detect clandestine nuclear tests around the world.
  8. Spearheading multiple 123 Agreements to empower American companies to sell their nuclear energy innovations overseas.

These efforts reduce threats, strengthen partnerships, and reinforce U.S. leadership in the peaceful use of nuclear technology.

Peace Through Atomic Strength

Peace Through Atomic Strength requires capability, readiness, industrial capacity, technological leadership, and the ability to deliver.

Across weapons modernization, nuclear materials production, infrastructure, counterterrorism, and nonproliferation, NNSA is translating these priorities into tangible national security capabilities to ensure the safety and security of all Americans.

NNSA’s mission demands urgency because the consequences of failure are far too great. America must maintain a safe, secure, and reliable nuclear deterrent; rebuild the infrastructure and production capacity needed to sustain it; maintain technological leadership; and deter nuclear threats so they never reach America’s shores.

That is Peace Through Strength in action—and the Trump Administration is delivering on that mission.
