The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) is proposing to provide federal funding to Hotrock Energy Research Organization (HERO) for the development of a temporary well bore packer system that would allow for controlled stimulation of an Enhanced Geothermal System (EGS) reservoir. The proposed project activities would include the design, development, laboratory testing, and fabrication of a demonstration unit of the packer system. Review of existing packer technologies and materials selection criteria development and identification would be completed within offices located in Seattle, Washington. Laboratory and industrial scale testing of polymers at various temperatures and pressures would be completed at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City, Utah and at the Baker Hughes GE industrial testing facility in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. A field testing plan would be developed as part of final reporting for this project but field testing is not part of the DOE project and would not occur during this project’s period of performance.
