The Geothermal Technologies Office (GTO) has returned from the Geothermal Rising Conference (GRC) in Reno, Nevada!

September 9, 2022The Geothermal Technologies Office (GTO) has returned from the Geothermal Rising Conference (GRC) in Reno, Nevada! After an extended hiatus from attending in-person events, our team was eager to engage with our community again, and the event did not disappoint. The research, design, and development progress discussed in the technical sessions, the robust involvement of the geothermal industry, dynamic conversations in panels and hallway conversations, and the exciting announcements across the geothermal landscape made this GRC well worth the wait. If you were unable to attend, read on for some highlights!

Lauren Boyd, GTO Acting Director, announced the winners of the American-Made Geothermal Manufacturing Prize, a $4.65 million competition to incentivize innovators to use additive manufacturing to address the challenges associated with operating sensitive equipment in harsh geothermal environments. Congratulations again to Team Downhole Emerging Technologies and Team Ultra-High Temperature Logging Tool for developing 3D-printed tools to harness geothermal energy! We look forward to watching the continued success of our winners and all of the prize participants.

At the 2022 GRC, GTO introduced new engagement resources and opportunities for our stakeholders at our booth, complemented by new materials online. First, the GTO booth held ‘office hours,’ when GRC attendees could stop by to ask specific GTO staff and leadership their geothermal questions. We’re glad so many of you stopped by! In addition, we launched our Geothermal Everywhere postcards, each highlighting a different GTO initiative (stay tuned for more to collect!). Attendees also had the opportunity to explore our new Lithium StoryMap—the perfect tool to explore the relationship between geothermal and lithium extraction, and to learn why DOE is investing in domestic research and development.
If you have questions or comments, please email DOE.geothermal@ee.doe.gov. We look forward to engaging with our community more in the coming months!
Sincerely,
GTO Geothermalites
