Battery Critical Materials Supply Chain Opportunities Workshop

Critical materials are used in many products important to the American energy economy. For example, critical materials like lithium and cobalt are vital to manufacturing lithium-ion batteries used for electric vehicles and grid energy storage, and demand continues to grow.
The Trump Administration has made the security of our nation’s critical-mineral supplies a top priority. In response to White House Executive Order 13817, A Federal Strategy to Ensure Secure and Reliable Supplies of Critical Minerals, the Department of Energy (DOE) is leading the way in reducing our dependence on imported critical materials by reducing the amount of the materials needed for battery production and recycling the materials already in use.
On June 29, 2020, DOE is hosting a virtual Battery Critical Materials Supply Chain Opportunities Workshop to convene stakeholders across the battery critical materials supply chain. Join us for an in-depth conversation about the nation’s battery critical mineral cathode supplies, and learn about how DOE is driving U.S. economic competitiveness across the critical materials supply chain.
The workshop will include:
- An overview of DOE investments in research and development;
- A virtual roundtable on the state of the battery critical materials supply chain;
- Special remarks from Daniel R Simmons, Assistant Secretary for the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy; and
- A special announcement.
This Battery Critical Materials Supply Chain Opportunities Workshop supports DOE’s Energy Storage Grand Challenge, which draws on the extensive research capabilities within the DOE National Laboratories, universities, and industry to accelerate the development the energy storage technologies and sustain American global leadership.
