The General Services Administration (GSA) and the Department of Energy/National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) issue this Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) on their proposal to relocate
certain non-nuclear component production and procurement activities to a smaller, more efficient and flexible facility.
The United States General Services Administration (GSA) and the United States Department of Energy’s National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) have prepared an Environmental Assessment (EA), DOE/EA-1592, to relocate certain non-nuclear component production and procurement activities currently conducted at NNSA’s Kansas City Plant (KCP) to a smaller new facility.
The Department of Energy (DOE) has completed an environmental assessment that evaluates the impacts of demolition of the Bevatron and the structure that houses it, Building 51, at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL). The primary project objectives are to eliminate potential hazards associated with Building 51; to reduce the burden on LBNL maintenance resources; to free space for potential future activities; and to help satisfy DOE policy requiring that the square footage of new construction at a DOE facility be balanced by elimination of an equivalent amount of excess space.
The Department of Energy (DOE) prepared an environmental assessment (EA) (DOE/EA-1538) in 2005 to evaluate the potential environmental impacts associated with the implementation of proposed and alternative actions to enhance the safe and secure storage of plutonium-bearing materials at the Savannah River Site (SRS) to meet the enhanced terrorist threat that has existed since the events of September 11, 2001. Based on the analyses in the EA,
DOE determined that the proposed action was not a major Federal action significantly affecting the quality of the human environment within the meaning of the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) of 1969 and issued a Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI).
The purpose of the proposed action evaluated in this Environmental Assessment (EA) is to advance technology transfer and other missions of the U. S. Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Science at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) through the establishment of the Oak Ridge Science and Technology Project (ORSTP). Based on the results of the analysis reported in the EA, DOE has determined that the proposed action is not a major federal action that would significantly affect the quality of the human environment within the meaning of the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) of 1969.
