The Department of Energy's National Energy Technology Laboratory has prepared an Environmental Assessment that evaluates the potential environmental impacts to provide partial funding through a cooperative agreement with the City of Auburn for the design and construction of a cnetralized anaerobic digester facility for the production of approximately 3 Megawatts of renewable electric power in Auburn, New York.
DOE has prepared an Environmental Assessment for the proposed project in which the DOE would provide co-funding to inject underground and closely monitor the flow of approximately 1.1 million short tons of supercritical carbon dioxide into the brine-bearing Mount Simon Formation over a period of three years.
The proposed action is for the DOE to provide 69% of the funds necessary to complete the project to inject and closely monitor the flow of approximately 1.7 million short tons (1.5 million metric tons) of supercritical carbon dioxide into the brine-bearing Tuscaloosa Formation on the flank of the structure, downdip of the oil-bearing zone.
