FEMP IACET: 0.1
Level: Introductory

As electric grid constraints and peak demand events become more frequent, demand flexibility offers federal facilities a powerful tool to reduce costs, enhance reliability, and support grid resilience.

This training introduces participants to the value of demand flexibility in today's evolving energy environment and highlights federal programs that simplify participation. Learners will explore how the Federal Energy Management Program (FEMP), General Services Administration (GSA), and Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) help agencies respond to peak demand events and manage costs by streamlining access to demand response services and support.

In addition to covering general demand flexibility strategies, GSA and DLA will provide examples of two free programs specifically available to federal facilities in the PJM and ISO-NE regions that provide peak demand notifications and access to curtailment service providers.

Learning Objectives

  • Explain the concept and value of demand flexibility in the current energy environment, including how increasing load growth and grid constraints influence federal facility costs and reliability.

  • Identify federal services and programs that enable facilities to streamline participation in demand response programs.

  • Apply practical steps to enroll in peak event alerts through GSA and engage curtailment service providers through DLA.

Instructors

About FEMP Training

The Federal Energy Management Program (FEMP) provides live and on-demand training to foster and maintain a high-performance workforce that constructs, operates, and maintains cost-effective federal facilities. Choose from topics like project financing, facility and fleet optimization, fleet management, resilience, sustainable product procurement, and more.

FEMP is accredited by the International Association for Continuing Education and Training (IACET) and awards IACET continuing education units (CEUs) upon the successful completion of select courses. FEMP training is provided through the National Institute of Building Sciences' Whole Building Design Guide (WBDG) learning management system.
