Rocky Flats Site CERCLA Five-Year Review Public Notice

The U.S. Department of Energy Office of Legacy Management is conducting a Five-Year Review of the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA) remedy at the Rocky Flats Site, Colorado. 

The purpose of the Five-Year Review is to evaluate remedy performance to determine if it remains protective of human health and the environment. The Rocky Flats Site remedy consists of institutional and physical controls, monitoring, and maintenance. The Rocky Flats Site Five-Year Review team will conduct a technical assessment of the remedy performance based on monitoring data, inspection, and surveillance reports; changes in risk assessment parameters; and other relevant information. Results of the Five-Year Review will be documented in a report to be completed by August 2027 and posted to the Rocky Flats Site webpage.

Remediation at the Rocky Flats Site was conducted in accordance with Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA) and/or Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) regulations. Responsibility for operation and maintenance of the Site was transferred to LM in late 2005 and requires operation and maintenance of groundwater collection and treatment systems, groundwater and surface water monitoring, routine inspection and maintenance, records-related activities, and stakeholder support.
