The Water Power Technologies Office (WPTO) concluded another successful week at HydroVision International—the world’s largest hydropower trade show and conference—in Denver, Colorado. Thousands of attendees from the United States and worldwide networked, conducted business, and discussed how water power can innovate and move forward. Below are some ways WPTO participated in the event:

  • WPTO unveiled the HydroWISE website. HydroWISE is a portal for data, tools, maps, publications, and hydropower research and development projects from industry and five national laboratories. It houses the Energy Department's hydropower-related resources in one location, making it easier to search and access information.
  • WPTO demonstrated the Hydropower RAPID Toolkit for the hydropower community. The toolkit makes it easier to navigate the complex system of federal and state regulations—including the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission licensing process—and to secure project approvals. The office also introduced the toolkit to attendees of the Policies and Regulations track sessions by way of sponsorship.
  • WPTO hosted Energy Department funding awardees and Hydro Research Foundation fellows during afternoon networking events. Deputy Assistant Secretary for Renewable Power Tim Unruh attended and learned more about the success of the hydro fellowship program.
  • Lastly, WPTO broadcasted its first Facebook Live from the tradeshow floor. It featured WPTO Director Alejandro Moreno, WPTO Hydropower Program Manager Tim Welch, Whooshh Innovations, the National Hydropower Association, Natel Energy, and the Hydro Research Foundation.
