Western proposes to upgrade the existing 146 miles of CH-MM 115kB transmission line which crosses Carbon, Albany and Larmie Counties in Wyoming and 35 miles of the AU-CH transmission line which corsses portions of Laramie Counties, Wyoming and Weld County, Colorado. The upgrade would remove the existing 115-kV H-frame structures and replace them with new 230-Kv H-frame structures and single pole steel structures. Western also proposes to widen the existing right-of-way (ROW), where necessary to allow adequate electrical clearances.
DOe proposes to remove readioactively-contaminated sodium residuals left over from the drain of the Hanford Site radioactively-contaminated sodium inventory (i.e., FFTF, Hallam Reactor, and Sodium Reactor Experiment) by reacting the sodium metal with water (as superheated steam) to produce caustic sodium hydroxide; remove associated equipment/components to allow removal of the sodium; and remove, dispose, and stabilize miscellaneous hazards and waste streams left over from the sodium drain.
DOE has prepared a Special Environmental Analysis (SEA) for Actions Taken under U.S. Department of Energy Emergency Orders Regarding Operation of the Potomac River Generating Station in Alexandria, Virginia, and is announcing its availability. In the SEA, DOE examines environmental impacts from the Secretary of Energy’s December 20, 2005 Emergency Order, and the Secretary’s September 28, 2006 extension of that Emergency Order; the SEA covers a period of about 24 months beginning in December 2005. The SEA also considers alternatives that include mitigation measures that DOE may take until the Potomac Electric Power Company’s (PEPCO) installation of two additional 230 kV electric transmission lines to the Central Washington, DC area (expected in June 2007) that would appear to eliminate the emergency that lead to the issuance of the December 20, 2005 Emergency Order.
