Summary
Western Area Power Administration (WAPA) prepared an environmental assessment (DOE/EA-2062) for the Campbell County Wind Farm 2 Interconnection Request. Campbell County Wind Farm 2, LLC (CCWF2) proposes to construct the Campbell County Wind Farm 2 Project (CCWF2 Project) in Campbell County, South Dakota. The CCWF2 Project would generate up to 98.6 mega-watts and would interconnect to WAPA’s Bismarck to Glenham 230 kilo-volt transmission line at the existing Campbell County switchyard.
The interconnection request was analyzed in an environmental assessment (EA) tiered from the analysis conducted for the Upper Great Plains Wind Energy Programmatic EIS (DOE/EIS-0408). WAPA evaluated the potential environmental impacts of the interconnection request and found that the Proposed Action does not significantly affect the quality of the human environment. As a result, a Finding of No Significant Impact was prepared in accordance with NEPA (42 U.S.C. 4336) and the DOE’s NEPA implementing regulations at 10 CFR 1021.322.
This project was initially proposed by ConEdison Development in 2017 and WAPA began the environmental assessment process under the same identification number (DOE/EA-2062). The project was later sold to the current proponent, Campbell County Wind Farm 2, LLC, a subsidiary of RWE Clean Energy.
