The U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Alternative Fuels and Feedstocks Office (AFFO) today announced up to $58 million in funding to advance novel, high-impact chemical technologies that use domestically sourced alternative and waste feedstocks. Projects funded through this initiative will advance new methods of chemical production that maximize the use of America’s vast biomass and waste resources.

The Department of Energy’s Alternative Fuels and Feedstocks Office held an informational webinar on the recently announced Accelerating Scale-up and Pre-piloting of Emerging Chemical Technologies (ASPECT) funding opportunity on Friday, September 11, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. ET. The funding opportunity provides up to $58 million to fund research, development, and pre-pilot testing of innovative chemical technologies that use alternative and waste feedstocks and accelerate domestic chemical manufacturing.

The Alternative Fuels and Feedstocks Office (AFFO), which brings together legacy efforts under the former Bioenergy Technologies Office and Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technologies Office, provides funding for bioenergy industry and hydrogen and full cell technologies lab-led consortia.

The U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Alternative Fuel and Feedstocks Office (AFFO), enables research, development, and demonstration (RD&D) to accelerate technology commercialization for the production, storage, delivery and use of alternative fuels, fertilizers, chemicals, and feedstocks to enhance the security and reliability of energy networks and lower energy costs for Americans.
