The Alternative Fuels and Feedstocks Office (AFFO) conducts targeted hydrogen and fuel cell systems integration and demonstration activities to advance hydrogen and fuel cell commercialization and to provide data that feeds back to further guide research and development efforts.
Systems development and integration activities aim to validate R&D innovations at a systems level under real-world conditions, determine gaps to help guide R&D programs, identify and demonstrate new and promising integrated energy systems for various end uses of hydrogen, and inform larger-scale demonstration and deployment programs. The subprogram includes a portfolio of activities addressing AFFO's priorities for hydrogen and fuel cells in enabling nuclear abundance, meeting the demands of the SI revolution, and harnessing geologic hydrogen.
