Following a successful first year of the competition, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Technology Transitions (OTT) is pleased to announce that 184 student teams from 124 schools have been selected to compete in the EnergyTech University Prize (EnergyTech UP) 2023. These student teams represent 44 states, the District of Columbia, and two U.S. territories.

During this first phase of the competition, students explore business opportunities for selected energy technologies and present their findings at one of 15 regional Explore Events (see table below).

At the conclusion of the Explore Events, one team from each region will be named Regional Winner and awarded $3,000 in cash prizes. In addition, up to eight teams will be named Technology Bonus Prize Finalists in each region. When the Explore Events have concluded, the DOE technology offices awarding the Technology Bonus Prizes will select one winning team from that technology area to receive a $25,000 award.

The winner of OTT-specific National Lab Technology IP Licensing Bonus Prize will also be invited to join the Regional Winners in pitching at the national competition at Zpryme’s Energy Thought Summit in Austin, Texas, this April.
