Summary

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) is proposing to provide funding to Oregon State University to develop and construct the PacWave South Hydrokinetic Project, a 20-megawatt open ocean marine hydrokinetic testing infrastructure designed to test and validate marine hydrokinetic devices, located approximately six nautical miles off the coast of Newport, Oregon.

On April 23, 2020, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) published notice of an Environmental Assessment (EA) and Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) for the PacWave South Hydrokinetic Project, and requested public comments be filed within 45 days.  The public comment period is now closed.  On June 7, 2020 the FERC FONSI became final.

DOE is a cooperating agency on the EA.  The EA, FERC FONSI and all comments submitted can be reviewed through the FERC website (under the Documents & Filings tab select eLibrary and conduct a general search using Docket Number P-14616). A direct link to the EA posted on FERC's website can be found at the PacWave South Project Environmental Assessment for Hydropower License

On July 1, 2020, pursuant to the requirements of the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) issued a Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) for the proposed action. An environmental impact statement will not be prepared.
