Funding will support laboratory research, design, testing, and fabrication of a high-efficiency, one-ton capacity air conditioning system that uses water as the refrigerant, with an aim to reduce the global warming potential of conventional air conditioning systems. The proposed work is consistent with the goal of Building Energy Efficiency Through Innovative Thermodevices: to develop energy-efficient building cooling technologies that will reduce energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. Proposed work consists entirely of research, development, and demonstration work to be completed in laboratory and testing facilities located at United Technologies Research Center's Corporate Research Center (East Hartford, Connecticut). The work performed will be limited to on-site research, design, development, testing, and evaluation.
