Columbia County will use the Department of Energy funding under the Competitive Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant Award for activities that lay groundwork for a regional transit system, gather data and share lessons learned to facilitate similar partnerships across the country. The project's main objective is to reduce fossil fuel emissions, decrease petroleum dependence, and mitigate traffic and congestion by making transit a popular option of choice for regional travel.
