The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) will offer a free, public tour of its Bluewater, New Mexico, Disposal Site on October 25, 2018, at 2:00 p.m. Bluewater was a uranium-ore-processing site addressed by Title II of the Uranium Mill Tailings Radiation Control Act (UMTRCA). It is located in Cibola County, approximately 9 miles northwest of Grants, New Mexico, and covers 3,300 acres.

Participants will be expected to drive their own vehicles during the tour; 4-wheel drive and high-clearance vehicles are recommended.  For safety reasons, all participants are required to wear sturdy hiking boots with ankle support and long pants; participants who do not fulfill these requirements will not be allowed on the tour. Please dress appropriately for the weather and note that the site lacks bathroom facilities.

The tour will meet outside Kiva Café in Milan, New Mexico at 1:45 p.m. before proceeding to the site. The tour will take place outdoors and last approximately 2.5 hours.
