DOE enforces the energy and water conservation regulations established by the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy, Appliance Standards Program to ensure that residential, commercial and industrial equipment deliver the energy and cost savings required by law. The enforcement office reviews manufacturers’ compliance with certification requirements. DOE ordered Kohler Co. to pay a $8,000 civil penalty after finding Kohler had failed to certify that certain models of water closets comply with the applicable water conservation standards.
