DOE ordered Piper Products, Inc. to pay a $8,000 civil penalty after finding Piper Products had failed to certify that a certain model of commercial refrigeration equipment comply with the applicable energy conservation standards. The Order adopted a Compromise Agreement, which reflected settlement terms between DOE and Piper Products.
DOE alleged in a August 11, 2016 Notice of Proposed Civil Penalty that Piper Products failed to certify a certain basic model of commercial refrigeration equipment as compliant with the applicable energy conservation standards. DOE regulations require a manufacturer (which includes importers) to submit reports certifying that each basic model of a covered product or covered equipment subject to an applicable energy conservation standard has been tested and meets the applicable energy conservation standards. This civil penalty notice advises the company of the potential penalties and DOE's administrative process, including the company's right to a hearing.
