The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Bioenergy Technologies Office (BETO) announced up to $23 million in funding to support research and development (R&D) of domestic chemicals and fuels from biomass and waste resources.

The U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy (ARPA-E) is considering issuing a Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) to support the development of new technologies to recover high energy-value materials from wastewater. These new technologies would aim to reduce reliance on foreign imports, domestic energy demands, and greenhouse gas emissions associated with conventional sourcing and waste stream treatment. The purpose of this announcement is to facilitate the formation of new project teams.

The U.S. Department of Energy issued topics for Phase One of the Fiscal Year (FY) 2025 Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) programs. These topics aim to advance the development and commercialization of new ideas and research from small businesses that can drive innovation.

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Technology Transitions (OTT) announced their Notice of Intent (NOI) to issue a call for proposals from DOE National Laboratories, Plants, and Sites for the Fiscal Year (FY) 2025 Core Laboratory Infrastructure for Market Readiness (CLIMR) Lab Call. The goal of OTT's Technology Commercialization Fund (TCF) is to improve America’s energy competitiveness and security by accelerating commercialization of critical energy technologies to market. DOE anticipates releasing the FY25 CLIMR Lab Call in October 2024.

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) announced awards totaling $142 million for small businesses through DOE’s Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) Phase II funding. Across DOE, 123 projects in 34 states received funding to pursue energy research and development projects. The average Phase II award is $1.1 million for a period of two years.

The U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE’s) Bioenergy Technologies Office (BETO) and National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) announced the 2024 community partner selectees for the Waste-to-Energy (WTE) Technical Assistance for State, Local, and Tribal Governments Program. The program will provide technical assistance for 20 communities in 14 states.

The Geothermal Technologies Office (GTO) has selected seven projects at four DOE national laboratories to receive more than $6 million for research and development that can directly aid in advancing and developing U.S. critical material supply chains.

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) announced awards for the FY24 Phase I Release 2 of the Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) program. Across DOE, 229 projects in 39 states received $52 million to pursue energy research and development (R&D), and eventual demonstration projects. The Bioenergy Technologies Office (BETO) selected 13 small businesses working to accelerate bioenergy R&D as part of this announcement. The companies, located across 10 states, have been selected to receive up to $206,500 each for this Phase I SBIR award. Of the 13 BETO awards, six are first-time awardees, four are located in Historically Underutilized Business (HUB) Zones, two are in socially and economically disadvantaged areas, and one is a woman-owned business.

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Bioenergy Technologies Office’s (BETO’s) Feedstock-Conversion Interface Consortium (FCIC) today announced their intent to issue an Industrial Partnership Call (IPC) to allow collaboration between industry stakeholders and FCIC researchers. These partnerships will address the cost and risk impacts of feedstock and process variability across the bioenergy and bioproducts value chain.
