In the fall of 2005, 18 teams from colleges and universities from the United States (including Puerto Rico), Canada, and Spain competed in the second Build Challenge. The teams assembled highly energy-efficient homes in a "village" on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. They competed in 10 contests that tested architectural and engineering design, energy efficiency, energy production, and more.
