On Monday, May 15th, Secretary of Energy Rick Perry will visit the Michael E. Debakey VA Medical Center in Houston, Texas. During the visit, the Secretary will tour the Medical Center.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – On Monday, May 15th, Secretary of Energy Rick Perry will visit the Michael E. Debakey VA Medical Center in Houston, Texas. During the visit, the Secretary will tour the Medical Center. Following the tour he will join the Million Veteran Program (MVP) by providing a blood sample to one of the world’s largest health record and human genomics databases. The Secretary will then deliver remarks to a crowd of veterans, scientists and medical experts announcing the Department of Energy’s new partnership with the VA in the MVP.

BACKGROUND:

  • The Department of Energy and the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) have formed a new partnership to utilize the capabilities of both agencies to better understand trends specific to veterans and combat problems such a veteran suicide, prostate cancer, cardiovascular disease, and more.
  • The VA hosts one of the world’s largest health record and human genomics databases on over 24 million veterans.
  • This partnership brings together the VA’s unparalleled and vast array of healthcare and genomic data in its Million Veteran Program, with DOE’s world class high performance computing, artificial intelligence, and data analytics.
