March 23, 2022To achieve President Biden’s goals of 100% clean power by 2035 and net zero emissions by 2050, it’s going to take everyone doing their part. Earlier this month, Secretary Jennifer Granholm, Deputy Secretary David Turk, and half a dozen other senior DOE officials joined thousands of international energy leaders from industry and government at the 2022 CERAWeek conference in Houston, Texas. DOE leadership delivered a message of partnership and ambition at the conference, charging the attendees to seize the opportunity of the clean energy revolution and to “be on the right side of history” by investing in net-zero technologies.

The Deputy Secretary takes the stage
To kick off the conference on Monday, March 7, Deputy Secretary Turk joined a panel discussion on the plenary stage with IHS Senior Vice President and former U.S. Ambassador Carlos Pascual, Repsol CEO Josu Jon Imaz, and Environmental Defense Fund President Fred Krupp. The Deputy Secretary highlighted how government and industry must work together to accelerate the clean energy transition by making big investments at home and abroad.
Getting to net-zero

On Wednesday, March 9, Secretary Granholm officially launched the Net-Zero Producers Forum — an alliance of major energy-producing nations committed to global solutions to achieve net-zero emissions and combat climate change. The founding members—the United States, Canada, Qatar, Norway and Saudi Arabia—represent 40% of global oil and gas production.
Partnering for a clean, secure energy future
“I hope we’ll look back at 2022 as the year the world took giant steps to improve energy security and tackle climate change.”
Secretary Granholm rounded out her time at the conference with a keynote address on the plenary stage, making the case for clean energy as the ultimate solution to both the climate crisis and the weaponization of energy by autocrats.
The Secretary also urged the industry leaders in attendance to do what they can to increase short-term production to alleviate the burden of high gasoline prices on American families—while accelerating progress toward a net-zero future.
