Announcement marks continued growth for the national AI-for-science effort

WASHINGTON—The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) today announced that the Genesis Mission has secured more than $800 million in committed partner support through the Genesis Mission Consortium. The commitments were unveiled at the inaugural Genesis Mission Summit alongside the first projects selected through the Genesis Mission Request for Applications. These contributions reflect continued momentum since President Trump launched the mission by Executive Order in November 2025.
The reported commitments by consortium members include compute resources and credits, access to foundational AI models, cloud infrastructure, scientific expertise, research partnerships, and direct funding. Together, these contributions significantly expand the mission’s capabilities and reinforce national support for accelerating AI-enabled scientific discovery.
“The Genesis Mission is scaling at a pace that reflects not only the strength of its partners, but the shared determination to transform the nation’s scientific enterprise,” said Under Secretary for Science and Genesis Mission Director Dr. Darío Gil. “Each new commitment expands our capabilities and accelerates our progress. Together, we are building an innovation engine of unprecedented power, one that only America can deliver.”
The Genesis Mission aims to integrate artificial intelligence into transformative scientific discovery, with the goal of doubling the productivity and impact of American science and engineering within a decade. The Genesis Mission Consortium serves as the central mechanism for engaging organizations committed to advancing that vision.
The consortium currently includes all 17 DOE National Laboratories, five NNSA plants and sites, and 41 industry, nonprofit, and philanthropic organizations. DOE is now expanding engagement to academic institutions to further strengthen the mission with additional research capacity, capabilities, and talent.
Since its launch, the mission has rapidly advanced from concept to execution. The new commitments announced today reflect growing national momentum and reinforce the Genesis Mission’s role as a cornerstone of the nation’s long-term strategy to harness AI for scientific discovery, innovation, and leadership.
