The following reports on the OTT Technology Commercialization Fund (TCF) are available for download below.

The Technology Commercialization Fund (TCF): Baseline and Process Report documents the TCF program design and presents findings on:

  • Lab approaches to funding technology development and DOE Program Office approaches to funding allocation, prior to and after the TCF program launched in its current form in FY 2016,
  • TCF-inspired changes in practices and attitudes at the labs and Program Offices (baseline to current study), and
  • Process evaluation findings from the perspectives of the DOE Office of Technology Transitions’ (OTT) TCF staff, the DOE Program Offices, Lab Technology Transfer Office (TTO) Managers, Principal Investigators (PIs), and industry partners.

The report addresses program activities in Fiscal Years 2016 and 2017 (FY16 and FY17) and provides conclusions and recommendations.

The First Interim Technology Commercialization Fund (TCF) Outcomes Report documents the early outcomes and impacts of the fiscal year 2016 and 2017 TCF awards, based on findings from online surveys with Principal Investigators and private partners involved in TCF proposals and awards. 

The study explores four domains of outcomes and impacts

  • Advancement in technology readiness levels (TRL)
  • Industry interest in the technology
  • Knowledge gain related to commercialization of the technology
  • Follow-on development and commercialization outcomes 

The Second DOE Interim Technology Commercialization Fund (TCF) Outcomes Report documents outcomes and impacts of the fiscal year 2016, 2017, and 2018 TCF awards, based on findings from online surveys with Principal Investigators and private partners involved in TCF proposals and awards.  The study explores four domains of outcomes and impacts:

  • Advancement in technology readiness levels (TRL) 
  • Industry interest in the technology
  • Knowledge gain related to commercialization of the technology
  • Dissemination, development, and commercialization outcomes
