About Department of Energy Project Management Awards

Each year, the Secretary of Energy recognizes projects that have demonstrated excellence in the project management discipline. Three awards are given to projects:

  • The Project Management Excellence Award is presented to a project team that has demonstrated exceptional results in completing a project within cost and schedule.
  • The Project Management Achievement Award is presented to project teams that have demonstrated significant results in completing projects within cost and schedule.
  • The Project Management Improvement Award is presented to a project team that has implemented ideas, methods, or processes that led to measurable improvements in project management.

Additionally, the Department recognizes Federal Project Directors (FPDs) who have demonstrated excellence in project management. One award is given to an individual:

  • The Federal Project Director of the Year is presented to the FPD that has demonstrated exceptional leadership and project management acumen.
