Kyle Haustveit was sworn in as the U.S. Department of Energy's Under Secretary of Energy on May 22, 2026. In this role, Mr. Haustveit provides strategic leadership across several offices dedicated to delivering affordable, reliable, and secure energy to the American people. These include the Offices of Electricity; Cybersecurity, Energy Security, and Emergency Response (CESER); Arctic Energy; Indian Energy; Nuclear Energy; Energy Dominance Financing; Hydrocarbons and Geothermal; and the Power Marketing Administrations.

Before joining the U.S. Department of Energy, Mr. Haustveit served in a range of technical and leadership roles at Devon Energy. During his tenure, he led teams that developed and commercialized diagnostic techniques now used globally to optimize hydraulic fracturing and resource development. He later directed an Energy Ventures team focused on investments in next-generation energy technologies, including geothermal, carbon utilization, and produced water treatment.

A North Dakota native and third-generation energy worker, Mr. Haustveit maintains deep ties to both the energy and agriculture sectors. He holds a degree in petroleum engineering from Montana Tech and an MBA in energy from the University of Oklahoma.
