DOE Extends the Comment Period on Proposed Process Rule Updates

DOE has extended the deadline to comment on the Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NOPR) to update the appliance and equipment standards Process Rule.

DOE has extended the comment period from Aug. 6, 2026, to Aug. 21, 2026, for a notice of proposed rulemaking (NOPR) titled, “Procedures, Interpretations, and Policies for Consideration of New or Revised Energy Conservation Standards and Test Procedures for Consumer Products and Certain Commercial/Industrial Equipment.”

DOE issued the NOPR on July 7, 2026, and provided an opportunity for submitting written comments by Aug. 6, 2026. DOE received a joint request from multiple trade organizations to extend the public comment period to Sep. 8, 2026. DOE has reviewed this request and has issued a pre-publication Federal Register notice granting an extension of the public comment period to allow public comments to be submitted until Aug. 21, 2026.
