Who We Are

The Office of Investigations is responsible for addressing reported instances of fraud, waste, and abuse that impact Department programs, operations, facilities, and personnel.  Our investigative efforts focus on violations of criminal and civil statutes, as well as significant instances of administrative misconduct. The following areas are considered our highest priorities:

  • Contract fraud
  • Grant fraud
  • Employee misconduct
  • Cyber crimes

The OIG collaborates with the U.S. Attorney’s Office, federal law enforcement, state and local partners, and Department officials to investigate the allegations reported to us and ensure offenders are held accountable.

Our investigative outcomes may result in criminal prosecutions, civil recoveries, administrative actions, suspensions, debarments, personnel actions and recommendations that strengthen the Department’s internal controls to reduce future risk and to protect taxpayer resources.
