HGEO's leaders participated in a series of keynote sessions, panel discussions, bilateral engagements, and industry meeting in early May, highlighting DOE’s commitment to delivering reliable, affordable, and secure American energy.
Hydrocarbons and Geothermal Energy Office
May 21, 2026The U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Hydrocarbons and Geothermal Energy Office (HGEO) participated in OTC 2026 and the EVOLVE Conference from May 3–6, 2026—a series of premier global forums bringing together U.S. and international energy executives, policymakers, innovators, and technical experts to discuss offshore development, subsurface technology, and strategies for strengthening global energy security.
Throughout the four-day program in Houston, Assistant Secretary Kyle Haustveit and Deputy Assistant Secretary Ryan Peay participated in keynote sessions, panel discussions, bilateral engagements, and industry meetings that highlighted DOE’s commitment to delivering reliable, affordable, and secure American energy.
Supporting Global Energy Security Through Offshore Innovation
Assistant Secretary Kyle Haustveit participated in the OTC Executive Dialogue Series on May 4, 2026, where he underscored the Administration’s focus on strengthening offshore energy reliability, advancing subsurface technologies, and supporting U.S. industry leadership in global markets. The Dialogue convened senior leaders from across the offshore sector to explore how governments and industry can work together to build a resilient energy system capable of meeting rapidly rising global demand while enhancing security and market stability.
Throughout the week, he also met with international partners, participated in industry meetings, and engaged on the exhibit floor, where DOE highlighted innovation across the offshore energy value chain.
Driving Technology Advancement at the EVOLVE Conference
On May 6, 2026, Assistant Secretary Kyle Haustveit joined senior executives and thought leaders for a fire-side style conversation at the Enverus EVOLVE Conference, held at the Marriott Marquis in Houston. The discussion explored emerging subsurface technologies, digital innovation, and strategies for accelerating responsible development across U.S. hydrocarbon and geothermal resources. Participants examined tools and approaches that reduce operational risk, improve efficiency, and equip companies with the real-time capabilities needed to compete globally—areas that directly align with HGEO’s research, development, and demonstration (RD&D) portfolio.
Strengthening Energy Partnerships at OTC and BRATECC
Deputy Assistant Secretary Ryan Peay represented the Department of Energy across several key engagements throughout the week, including the Government and Industry: Working Together for Secure, Reliable, Affordable Offshore Oil & Gas session at the Offshore Technology Conference. In his remarks, he emphasized the importance of strengthening U.S. LNG leadership, supporting global energy security through the Strategic Petroleum Reserve, aligning DOE’s research and development efforts with industry needs, and reinforcing U.S. competitiveness across the offshore energy sector.
On May 6, 2026, he also delivered remarks at the Brazil Texas Chamber of Commerce (BRATECC), highlighting the growing U.S.–Brazil energy partnership and the importance of regional cooperation in hydrocarbons, geothermal development, and strategic resources—reflecting DOE’s commitment to deepening engagement across the Americas.
Delivering Real World Impact
Across engagements at OTC, EVOLVE, BRATECC, and bilateral partner meetings, HGEO underscored the Administration’s commitment to “energy addition “expanding U.S. production while strengthening global access to reliable, affordable energy. Under President Trump, DOE is advancing policies that expand domestic hydrocarbon and geothermal production, reinforce the Strategic Petroleum Reserve, restore predictability to LNG exports, accelerate innovation in subsurface and drilling technologies, and improve the ability of American companies to compete in global markets.
