March 4, 2026The Knolls Laboratory Land Disposal Area (LDA) Corrective Measure Implementation (CMI) Project is being undertaken as a Corrective Measure remedy to remediate soil contaminated with metals and volatile organic compounds. The scope of work includes:
- Targeted excavation to remove surface and subsurface soil with chemical concentrations exceeding Unrestricted Use Soil Cleanup Objectives (SCOs) and to remove surficial waste material/debris. Excavated material will be consolidated or disposed offsite.
- Engineered cover system consisting of a combination of vegetated soil and gravel covers, with a minimum 12-inch thickness and finished with vegetation, asphalt, and/or gravel surface coverings.
- A post-remediation groundwater, seep, and surface water quality monitoring program to assess the performance and effectiveness of the corrective measure and collect data for timely remedial decision-making.
