February 25, 2026The U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Office of Geothermal (OG) has announced a funding opportunity of up to $171.5 million to support next-generation geothermal field tests for electricity generation as well as characterization and confirmation drilling for next-generation and hydrothermal resources.
The funding opportunity includes six topics with varied levels of anticipated funding and awards. For the first round of applications, two of the six topics will be open: Topic Area 1, EGS Field Tests, and Topic Area 6, Drilling for Next-Generation and Hydrothermal Resource Exploration, Characterization, and Confirmation. Additional topics may open in the future, pending funding.
