The Office of Electricity’s (OE) Territory and Recovery Assistance Program helps the U.S. territories transition to a more reliable power grid by coordinating federal investments, providing technical assistance, and deploying resilience solutions in partnership with local, community and government stakeholders. Working in coordination with other federal agencies, OE supports U.S. territories by improving energy affordability, leveraging their energy abundance, aiding territory utilities and governments recover from past disasters, increasing grid resilience, and hardening infrastructure against extreme weather.

Resources

Engage Energy Modeling Tool: This tool facilitates custom energy system planning, simulation, and data management for islands and other jurisdictions based on user-supplied datasets.

Energy Security and ResilienceNational Laboratory of the Rockies' (NLR) research in energy security and resilience aims to minimize the occurrence of energy system disruptions and, when they occur, their impact on services, missions, and people.

Microgrid Design, Modeling, and Analysis: Sandia National Laboratories (SNL) supports stakeholders to assess the tradeoffs between microgrid cost, emissions, reliability, and duration of power delivery during an extended outage by leveraging existing toolsets.

The Microgrid Conceptual Design Guidebook is meant to assist communitiesfrom residents to energy experts to decision makers – in developing a conceptual microgrid design that meets site-specific energy resilience goals.

The Resilient Node Cluster Analysis Tool (ReNCAT) is a software application that suggests microgrid portfolios that reduce the impact of large-scale disruptions to power, as measured by the Social Burden Metric.

Energy Innovator Fellowships: The Energy Innovator Fellowships supports recent graduates and early-career energy professionals who work with critical energy organizations to modernize the power system, improve energy infrastructure for transportation and industry, and make the U.S. power system more reliable, affordable, and secure.

State and Tribal Grid Resilience and Transmission Planning Resource Hub: Expanding and modernizing the electric grid to meet growing electrification will be a holistic effort across communities, states, tribes, and the nation. Success will not be achieved with individual projects, but only with a national coordinated effort. The Office of Electricity is committed to working with a wide range of community partners, and collaboration with states, tribes, and territories will be critical to success.
