Our History

The Southeastern Power Administration was created in 1950 by the Secretary of the Interior to carry out the functions assigned to the Secretary by the Flood Control Act of 1944, 58 Stat. 890, 16 U.S.C. § 825s. In 1977, Southeastern was transferred to the newly created Department of Energy (DOE). Headquartered in Elberton, Georgia, Southeastern has the authority to market hydroelectric power and energy from reservoir projects operated by the Corps in the states of Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia.
