
Florie Knauf serves as the Acting Deputy Assistant Secretary for Nuclear Fuel Cycle in the Office of Nuclear Energy.
She directs the Department’s research and development on advanced nuclear fuel cycle technologies that have the potential to improve resource utilization and energy generation, reduce waste, and limit proliferation risk.
Ms. Knauf began her career at DOE in the Office of General Counsel of the National Nuclear Security Administration, and later in NNSA’s Office of Nonproliferation and Arms control, focusing on export controls and sanctions, including significant work on WMD programs in Iran and North Korea. After completing a Brookings Institution LEGIS fellowship on Capitol Hill, Ms. Knauf returned to NNSA to help stand up the Center of Excellence (COE) for Nuclear Security in Beijing, China.
Following her tenure at NNSA, Ms. Knauf worked at Centrus Energy Corp, and Urenco USA, focusing on commercial transactions and government affairs for low-enriched uranium (LEU) and high assay low-enriched uranium (HALEU). She returned to the Department of Energy most recently from the Nuclear Energy Institute, where she was part of the government affairs team.
Ms. Knauf has a bachelor’s degree in philosophy from Georgetown University and Juris Doctorate from Suffolk University Law School.
