Stay up-to-date on the latest energy-saving and money-saving tips from the Department of Energy.

The Office of International Affairs (IA) works with the larger U.S. interagency foreign policy team to collaborate with governments worldwide to design and accelerate global clean energy transitions that address the climate crisis, enhance and ensure energy security, and create good paying jobs and prosperity for the American people and communities everywhere.

As the Department’s lead on international energy issues, the Office of International Affairs is responsible for directing diplomatic outreach, leading multilateral energy negotiations -- including in ministerial-level energy tracks in the G7, G20, APEC where the Secretary of Energy represents the U.S -- and developing energy policies to advance the administration’s global climate, economic, and security goals through cooperative platforms like the International Energy Agency, the Clean Energy Ministerial, and Mission Innovation.
Areas of Focus
Fighting the Energy War with Russia
DOE-IA is supporting Ukraine’s energy sector withstand Russian attacks by providing technical assistance in cooperation with the National Labs and supporting U.S. government efforts to procure material assistance. DOE-IA is also supporting Ukraine’s long-term energy and climate transition via Net-Zero World, including integration with the EU’s energy system through the development of energy infrastructure.
Ensuring a Global Clean Energy Transition: Net Zero World
The Net Zero World Initiative leverages expertise across U.S. government agencies and U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) national laboratories, including NREL, for a whole-of-government approach focused on advancing the decarbonization of global energy systems for our partners. The program supports countries committed to raising their climate ambitions through the development of tailored strategies addressing technical clean energy pathways and deployment and investment opportunities that keep net-zero within reach.
Ensuring U.S. Energy Security: Focus on Critical Minerals
We need to build reliable, resilient, affordable, diverse, sustainable, and secure domestic critical mineral and materials supply chains that support the clean energy transition and decarbonization of the energy, manufacturing, and transportation economies while promoting safe, sustainable, economic, and environmentally just solutions to meet current and future needs.
