About the Advanced Materials & Manufacturing Technologies Office

MISSION

We drive and inspire innovation to transform materials, manufacturing, and workforce to advance America’s energy economy.

 VISION

A globally dominant, innovative U.S. manufacturing and industrial base for a resilient energy system and secure supply chain.

What we do

Next Generation Materials & Processes

AMMTO focuses on accelerating foundational, cross-cutting energy materials and manufacturing process technologies across the Department’s mission areas that increase the competitiveness of a secure, domestic supply chain.

Secure and Sustainable Materials

AMMTO focuses on activities that are intended to ensure secure and sustainable supply chains for our Nation's energy future.

Energy Technology Manufacturing & Workforce

AMMTO focuses on research, development, and demonstration for innovative manufacturing that advance innovative energy solutions, such as energy storage systems and wide bandgap power semiconductors.

How We Do It

Funding Opportunities

AMMTO funds research, development, & demonstration (RD&D) projects across several subprograms that drive economy-wide decarbonization. A list of AMMTO-funded projects can be found in the Project Database

Funding opportunity announcements (FOA) are developed through a collaborative process to achieve the office's goals. Adhering to an open, highly competitive solicitation process, these funding opportunities encourage collaborative partnerships among industries; universities; national laboratories; federal, state, and local governments; and nongovernment organizations.

FOA applications undergo a rigorous peer review process before projects are selected for negotiation to receive DOE funding. Upon the successful completion of this negotiation process (including collaboration on a statement of project objectives, milestones, and budgets) projects can begin.

Consortia

In addition to FOAs, AMMTO fosters regional and topic-based innovation ecosystems through its network of Manufacturing USA institutes, user facilities, and innovation hubs, collectively referred to as "consortia."
