Stephen Stamper Acting Assistant Manager for Nuclear Material Stabilization

Stephen (Steve) Stamper is the Director of the Savannah River Laboratory Office (SRLO). As SRLO Director, he is responsible for executing the role of integrating and balancing contract requirements and risk and assessing the laboratory's ability to operate safely, efficiently, and effectively to successfully achieve mission success. SRLO also provides oversight for sustainability of the laboratory on behalf of DOE-SR.

Mr. Stamper has extensive experience in the public and private sectors with over 20 years in private business and 15 with the Department of Energy and its contractors. He has specialized experience associated with the construction, startup, operation and decommissioning of nuclear, fossil, chemical and manufacturing facilities. Mr. Stamper also has an extensive background in the private sector owning and operating an analytical laboratory and environmental consulting firm.

Prior to his current position, Mr. Stamper served as the Deputy Assistant Manager for the Assistant Manager Nuclear Material Stabilization (AMNMS) from February 2022 to July 2024. During that time, he spent over one year as the Acting Assistant Manager. As Deputy Assistant Manager, he provided executive leadership to project execution, contract management and oversight of all contractor and Federal activities associated with nuclear material stabilization programs and functions at SRS. Prior to his work in AMNMS, Mr. Stamper served as a DOE-SR Facility Representative for the Assistant Manager for Waste Disposition.

Mr. Stamper holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Murray State University. He resides in Aiken, SC with his wife and daughter.
