Stephen Stamper Acting Assistant Manager for Nuclear Material Stabilization

Stephen (Steve) Stamper is the Acting Assistant Manager for Nuclear Material Stabilization (AMNMS) for the U.S. Department of Energy Savannah River Operations Office (DOE-SR) in Aiken, South Carolina.  As Assistant Manager, Mr. Stamper provides executive leadership for project execution, contract management, and oversight of all contractor and Federal activities associated with Nuclear Material Stabilization Programs, providing oversight and guidance to a broad range of nuclear material stabilization functions at the Savannah River Site (SRS).  The functions of the AMNMS organization cut across all operational and organizational activities at SRS, contractor and Federal, and entail funding levels of approximately $2 billion dollars for a variety of nuclear materials management projects and programs.

Mr. Stamper is an Occupational Safety Specialist and Industrial Hygienist with over 30 years of specialized experience associated with the construction, startup, operation and decommissioning of nuclear, fossil, chemical and manufacturing facilities.   

Previously, Mr. Stamper served as a DOE-SR Facility Representative for the newly operational Salt Waste Processing Facility (SWPF) at SRS.  His responsibilities included oversight of project construction, testing, commissioning, startup and operations.  In this position, he provided guidance and oversight on the development, implementation, and interpretation of engineering and nuclear safety policy/standards related to the construction, startup and operation of a nuclear facility.  During his tenure at SWPF, he was awarded DOE Technical Employee of the Quarter and DOE-SR Facility Representative of the Year.  Before beginning his career with DOE, Mr. Stamper served as the Industrial Hygiene Supervisor for Centerra-SRS, the site’s security services contractor.  

Prior to his SRS career, Mr. Stamper owned multiple businesses that specialized in engineering, environmental consulting, safety and health, analytical and process laboratory services, and industrial construction.   

He holds a Bachelor of Science in Occupational Safety from Murray State University. 

Mr. Stamper resides in Aiken, South Carolina, with his wife and daughter.
