The Savannah River Site (SRS) is a key U.S. Department of Energy industrial complex. SRS is responsible for supporting our nation’s nuclear defense; preventing nuclear weapon proliferation; environmental stewardship and cleanup; waste management; and disposition of nuclear materials.
DOE’s Savannah River Operations Office (DOE-SR) is responsible for oversight of the DOE's Office of Environmental Management (EM) operations and the work performed by SRS contractors.
The National Nuclear Security Administration Savannah River Field Office (NNSA-SRFO) operates facilities at the SRS to supply and process tritium, a radioactive form of hydrogen that is a key component of nuclear weapons. SRS loads tritium and non-tritium reservoirs; processes reservoirs; and recycles, extracts, and enriches tritium gas.
The Savannah River National Laboratory is the applied research and development laboratory at SRS and is the DOE Office of Environmental Management’s laboratory.
