Energy Planners consistently identify Energy Conservation projects as being the most productive in reducing energy consumption and carbon footprint. The Arlington High School's primary heating plant boiler is 29 years old with an optimal efficiency rating of 65 percent. Replacing this unit with a modern heating plant with 81.3 percent efficiency will save 562,800 therms of energy per year and an estimated cost savings of $69,050. Without the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant Program grant, there is no current funding for this project. With the grant, town funding can be leveraged. Furthermore, the town's cost share can be realized in the first year with cost savings.
