Registration for the 2016 Student Design Contest is now open. The contest, run by the Hydrogen Education Foundation (HEF), is sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy Fuel Cell Technologies Office (FCTO), the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, and others. This effort is aligned with FCTO’s activities to work with the public, academia, and energy associations to ensure that students and the workforce are equipped with the skills and training needed to lead the clean energy economy. The deadline to register is February 10, 2016.

This year, the contest challenges student teams to develop a design for a hydrogen-based microgrid to help improve community power system resiliency and provide vital grid services, as well as allow for hydrogen fueled transportation. HEF will present a webinar on February 1, 2016, from 2 to 3 p.m. Eastern Standard Time, focusing on the contest topic and questions from students. Register for the webinar.

Since 2004, the Hydrogen Student Design Contest has challenged multi-disciplinary teams of university students to apply their creativity and academic skills in the areas of design, engineering, economics, environmental science, business, and marketing to the hydrogen and fuel cell industries.

Visit the Hydrogen Student Design Contest website to learn more about the contest and how to get involved.
