The Department of Energy conducted an environmental assessment that analyzed the potential environmental impacts associated with the construction and operation of a biomass-based diesel facility adjacent to the existing Valero St. Charles Refinery in Norco, Louisiana.
Based on the analyses in the environmental assessment, DOE determined that its proposed action - awarding a federal grant to Southeast Regional Carbon Sequestration Partnership to inject 125,000 tons of carbon dioxide per year for three years into a deep saline aquifer - would result in no significant adverse impacts.
