The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) is proposing to provide funding to Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) to develop and pilot an energy-efficient electrolysis reactor to produce solid metallic copper from copper sulfide concentrates. Project activities would include testing and development of electrolyte solutions, design, construction and operation of electrolysis cells, modeling and characterization, commercial analytical testing, and operation of electrochemical reactors.
