The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) is proposing to provide funding to the Department of Natural Resources for the State of Louisiana to replace aging constant speed pumps at the Transcontinental Drive wastewater pump station in Jackson Parish, LA with newer units that utilize variable frequency drives and flow-based controls in order to achieve energy cost reductions, reduced sewer overflows, and improved reliability.

The proposed project activities include equipment replacement and additions, and would not require physical modification of the existing facilities or the construction of new facilities. The project would not alter the capacity, use, mission or operation of the existing facility. It is not expected that new or modified permits would be required for the facility to continue normal operations as a result of the proposed project. The contractor completing the facility improvements is required to obtain all necessary construction permits prior to beginning work. With the exception of the replaced piping and equipment, the proposed project would not generate a waste stream. All waste would be disposed of according to local, state and federal regulations. The facility uses electric power for operation; therefore hazardous emissions are not expected as a result of the proposed project.
