The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) is proposing to provide federal funding to Sun Spec Alliance to establish an open, commercially embraced, solar data exchange system—comprised of a uniform taxonomy, information models, application program interfaces (APIs), and compliance test software suite—to enable a free flow of data between commercial software products that address the solar asset lifecycle.
The proposed project activities include convening stakeholder working groups, literature searches, specifying software interfaces and APIs, analytical reviews, conceptual designs, document preparation, and data dissemination. Work will take place both over the internet and in face-to-face meetings and would be limited exclusively to intellectual, academic, or analytical activities. No physical materials beyond basic office supplies and software would be utilized.
