The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) proposes to make improvements to the north and west exterior bicycle storage areas at the Solar Energy Research Facility (SERF) on the South Table Mountain (STM) campus of the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) in order to provide better access to the bicycle storage area and to protect bicycle’s from the weather.
NREL Site Operations would contract for and oversee the design and installation of overhanging weather protection measures (shelters) and improved sidewalk access at both storage areas. Proposed project activities would include architectural design work, excavation for site preparation, pouring of new concrete sidewalks adjacent to existing sidewalks and bicycle storage area pads, and construction of overhanging shelters. Sidewalk and bicycle storage areas expansion would total approximately 300 square feet, and overhanging shelter surface area would total 300 square feet. Total disturbed area for new sidewalks and construction equipment access would be less than 0.1 of an acre. All work would occur in areas that have been previously disturbed. The project would be designed in accordance with the NREL Design Guidelines. Upon completion of proposed activities, disturbed areas would be graded and seeded with the NREL-required seed mixture and erosion control measures would be put in place.
