April 2, 2025Funding will support the project's small-scale research and development of a proof-of-concept prototype multifunctional heat pump for heating and cooling, improving energy resilience within buildings. Specifically, the project team will (1) develop and produce heat pump components to meet evaluation criteria; (2) integrate components into a prototype system; and (3) test and validate prototype system to meet final evaluation criteria. If successful, this project would enable a heat pump system that provides higher heating and cooling efficiencies than conventional technologies with associated emission reductions, resulting in a reduced environmental footprint and increased U.S. energy security.
