Pursuant to Section 243 of the Energy Policy Act of 2005 (EPAct 2005), Hydroelectric Efficiency Improvement Incentives, as amended by Section 40332 of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act of 2021 (IIJA), the Secretary of Energy is authorized to make certain incentive payments, subject to the availability of appropriations, to owners and authorized operators of hydroelectric facilities at existing dams for capital improvements directly related to improving facility efficiency by at least three percent. The application period for such funding closed on June 20, 2023 and selectees for funding negotiations were announced on February 2, 2024.
